You do realize that Stephanie Meyers is a 30 year old mother. She actually wrote the book based off a dream she had, chapters 12 & 13. I am just 30 and I fell in love with the books. I would not have read them, but women older than me told me how great they were. I personally did not care as much for the movie as the books. I was actually talking this same subject over at work with both male and female. We have figured the reason that some older women are more crazier than they younger is this: Younger women or teens still have the idea of a perfect man and want it. The older ones have already been there and know it is just a fantasy and enjoy the thought of reliving younger days. On one of the websites for TM, a couple was taking their anniversary trip to Vancouver and Forks. I don't see any difference between the twilight and Elvis Presley craze. Women of all ages swooned over him.

You are so right. My teacher likes Twilight and she is overly obssed with it that she evens reads it to the whole class. Every girl in my classroom is happy while I'm hating it. You can like the book but with fangirls that are overly obssed it's annoying.
I'm obssed with anime but I don't go around saying 'Omg did you like and this and oh he's so great!" There are some times where you can act like that, but doing that to other it's just annoying.

My 14 y/o daughter begged me to read Twilight before the movie came out. Her friends moms did and those moms nudged me along too. I read it and found that it did bring out the 14 y/o in me which was fun... BUT I was disturbed by seeing Twilight and/or Robert Pattinson fans that were older than me... My daughter had plans to sleep out to see him at a Mall signing and the plans fell thru at the last minute... she was crushed... I thought what the heck, here's s chance to have a once in a lifetime mother/daughter experience.. since we live 20 mins from the mall .. so yeah I did it, I was the 40 y/o loser in the parking lot, scarfing down the free coffee & donuts from Hot Topic. I thought I was gonna freakin die when the news channels started filming around me.. how was I gonna explain this if I was somehow spotted, I would never live this down. I thought I met 2 other moms while I was there, but then realized they were fans when I saw the handmade buttons on their purses.. OMG. After awhile they attached themselves to the HotTopic staff ( i guess to try to get a one on one) I wouldnt have believed this if I didnt see it with my own eyes. I am a fan of the books because they were fun to read and provided a good bonding for me and my daughter. But somewhere you have to draw the line....

This blog is fantastic.

Lisa, the problem is not that they're reading the books. That's perfectly fine. The problem is that they've grown so obsessed that they've gone stalking the Twilight movie set, day in and day out, trying to get interviews/autographs/hugs/pictures/etc.

I get creeped out when I see 13-year-old fangirls doing that exact same thing, whether it's for a movie set or a band (and trust me, I've seen some pretty outrageous behavior from overly obsessive fangirls and fanboys)...but at least they're 13. There's somewhat of an excuse there. When you're in your 40s and 50s...that's ridiculous. It's ridiculous for older men to obsess over young women and it's ridiculous for older women to obsess over AND STALK young men who are playing roles in a movie adaptation of a book.

Number one, what the hell are they doing stalking a trailer all day? What's going on at home, at work? Are their lives THAT boring that they find ecstasy in the form of stalking actors that probably could be their own kids' age? The economy's hitting rock bottom and they're spending their money traveling to do this? What on earth is it doing to their kids? My parents are middle-aged...if my mother became obsessive like that over anything, it would disturb me to the point of needing counseling.

It appalls me that people who are supposed to be rational, mature and otherwise ADULT should act like this. And think that it's perfectly fine to act that way - while getting annoyed at the teenyboppers who are doing LESS creepy stuff than they are; I haven't heard stories of THEM stalking the sets. Personally, I think the TwiMoms need to grow up. They should've done so a long time ago.

I would like to say that Twilightmom is full of BS. The whole Twilight "phenomenom" is not due to the twilightmoms, it is due to the fact that all the teen fans have read the book and expressed EXTREME desire to SM to make Twilight a movie.

The Twilightmoms are just dellusional middle-aged mothers with nothing better to do.

They give all Twilight fans a bad name, hopefully they'll go away just as fast as the Twilight ice cream.

35. TM: I just was wondering, if any of the other actors have been freaked out at all by the dedication of the fandom, and by any of the Twilight Mom's stalking adventures.

Ashley: No, not at all. Right now I think its a blessing we have you guys as fans and supporters.

Funny, this is a quote directly from an interview Ashley Greene did with non-other than the Twilight Moms site...seems the actors aren't as "afraid" as you might think. Nor, should they be. If you did any fact checking and read the rules on the actual website you would see that although they may be "older" or "middle-aged" they abide by the rules and are nothing but respectful regarding the project. Not too mention if it weren't for the "middle-aged" moms giving their teeny-boppers their hard-earned money, there would be no Twilight phenomenom to begin with. Why is it that no one bats an eye at grown men obsessed with 18 year olds but when the situation is reversed, it's called preverse or weird. I guess teen-age girls being in love with Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp who are both older than this Twilight Mom by the way is perfectly okay and not creepy at all...RIGHT??

hello kate
great article !
I am a 52 year old dad, so I am not going to be too hard on love-starved middle-aged women (as the saying goes, "until you walk in their shoes ...")
Also I'd like to point out that the director, Catherine Hardwicke
was born in 1955 and her imagination in a certain sense also "stalked" this story about teenage sexuality
(moreover, she will walk away with dollars and fame, the moms are just enjoying a weekend masquerade)

I read on the Internet that there's a group of dads who so much enjoy the "Girls Gone Wild" videos that like TwilightMOMS, they take trips to the "sets" to watch the filming ^^

I am a 52 year old dad, so I am not going to be too hard on love-starved middle-aged women (as the saying goes, “until you walk in their shoes …”)
Also I’d like to point out that the director, Catherine Hardwicke
was born in 1955 and her imagination in a certain sense also “stalked” this story about teenage sexuality
(moreover, she will walk away with dollars and fame, the moms are just enjoying a weekend masquerade)

I read on the Internet that there’s a group of dads who so much enjoy the “Girls Gone Wild” videos that like TwilightMOMS, they take trips to the “sets” to watch the filming ^^

So, I've been trying to figure out for a while how to sum up my feelings for these "Mom's" and you did such an eloquent and succinct job, I no longer need to. I fit into their criteria and even joined for about 10 minutes... then filming started and I realized that most of them needed professional help. It must be nice to have all of their mortgages paid off, their kids have college funds and enough expendable cash to travel to the set and stalk people who COULD BE THEIR CHILDREN. Thanks!
